At the Mother Goose program at the end of each session we dump a bunch out of a basket onto the blanket in the middle and the babies flock to them. The toddlers hand out books to the smaller ones. Two little girls after a few weeks would sit on my lap and open up a board book waiting for me to read the book to them.
I see the benefits of books in a house when I visit my friends who have lots of books, it only takes opening a book and to start reading it to get the kids sitting quietly and paying attention to the story.
I think the kids who are exposed to books will always enjoy books.
